CONNEAUT — Owen D. “Pete” Overly, age 90, died on Sunday, May 12, 2013.
Born on April 1, 1923, in Williamsfield, Ohio, he was a son of Clara Viola (Owens) and George Wesley Overly and a 1941 graduate of Williamsfield High School. An area resident for most of his life, Mr. Overly wintered in Ocala, Fla. A Veteran, Mr. Overly served in the United State Army during World War II for the Battery D 778th Anti Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion. He served in Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. On August 2, 1946, he married Virginia Mae Currie.
Mr. Overly was a truck driver for Kaplan Trucking and drove truck for over thirty years.
He was a member of the former Andover Lodge No. 506 F & A Masons and also belonged to the Elks, Moose and VFW in Ocala, Fla. When Mr. Overly retired, he enjoyed playing golf.
Mr. Overly was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of sixty-three years, Virginia Mae Overly; an infant son, Charles Overly; a son, John R. “Jack” Overly; two great-grandsons, Taylor Plizga and Corey Overly; a sister, Annabell Limkeldie; and three brothers, Mike, Lloyd and Bunt Overly.
Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca J. (Kenneth) Stevenson of Andover, Ohio; two sons, Dale O. (Nancy) Overly of Johnston, Ohio, and Myron “Mike” L. (Paula) Overly of Andover, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Jackie, Julie, Shelli, Sheri, Keri, Wendy, Anthony, Timothy and Shawn; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18th, at BAUMGARDNER FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICE, 134 Prospect St., Andover, Ohio. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Andover, Ohio.
