JEFFERSON — Lawrence V. Meaney, age 93, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at the Hospice of the Valley in Poland, Ohio. He was a resident of Ashtabula County all his life.

He was born Oct. 5, 1919, to Elizabeth Morgan Meaney and Leo J. Meaney of Plymouth Township. He graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1938. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1941 until he was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant in 1945. He married Coletta C. Boyle at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ashtabula on June 7, 1947. They were married for over 60 years, until her death in 2007.

He worked for the Pittsburgh Coal docks and Conrail as a stationary Fireman for over 23 years, retiring in 1970. He owned and operated the family dairy farm while working on the docks and upon retiring in 1970 operated the dairy and crop operations full time. He retired from dairy farming in 1985, but continued to crop farm with his son until 2008 at the age of 88.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Calasanctius Church in Jefferson, where he served as an usher and member of the Knights of Columbus #4212. He was also a member of the Ashtabula County Farm Bureau and a member of the Plymouth Grange.

He enjoyed being around his family and traveling, especially going to Las Vegas with his wife.

He is survived by five children and spouses, Joanne E. (Jonathan) Herrmann of Cincinnati, Barbara M. (Rick) Mastriana of Lake Milton, Lawrence J. (Michelle) Meaney of Jefferson, Suzanne E. (Jeffrey) Kelly of Ashtabula and Leo J. (Kathy) Meaney of Austintown; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Sholtis and Margaret Martin; and one brother, Robert J. Meaney.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three sisters; two brothers; a daughter, Jeanne A. Falconer; and a granddaughter, Meredith Herrmann.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 4th, at St. Joseph’s Calasanctius Church, 32 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with Father Philip Miller officiating. Dewey Howlett Post #103 American Legion will be performing a Military Service prior to burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Ashtabula.

Visitation will be held at the Church from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, prior to the Service.
