ASHTABULA — Anna Bernice Balzer, age 95, of Conneaut, Ohio, returned to her loving God, Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at Ashtabula County Medical Center after a month long illness.
Born on July 25, 1918, to Valentine and Anna B. Glapa in Erkinschwich, Germany, she and her family came to the United States when she was just 5 years old. On Dec. 2, 1944, she married the love of her life, Stanley Balzer, and has lived in Conneaut since 1962.
Anna was a member of Corpus Christi Parish/St. Mary’s Church in Conneaut. She was also a member of the Polish American Ladies. She loved baking, cooking, sewing and especially spending time with her family.
Mrs. Balzer is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Jim) VanPutten of Conneaut; two sons, Larry (Barbara) Balzer of Conneaut and Allen (Bonnie) Balzer of Mesquite, Texas; grandchildren, Randy (Victoria) Balzer, Kathy (Carmen) Ricco, Jackie Snyder, Julie (Chuck) Peterson, Brandon (Jen) Jones and Kevin Jones; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Kay Katulski of Dunkirk, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley in 1994; son, Kenneth Balzer in 1974; three brothers, Walter, Edward and Leo Glapa; and a sister, Mary Kubasik.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. at Corpus Christi Parish/St. Mary’s Church, 480 State St., Conneaut, on Friday, Nov. 15th, with Father Philip Miller, pastor of Corpus Christi Parish, as celebrant, assisted by Father Raymond Thomas. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Conneaut, Ohio.
Friends may call on Thursday, Nov. 14th, from 5 to 8 p.m. at THOMPSON-SMITH-NESBITT FUNERAL HOME, 345 Main St., Conneaut.
