Francis T. Talcott

JEFFERSON — Francis Tyler Talcott, age 93, of Morgan Road, passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Jefferson Healthcare.

He was born March 1, 1920, in Ashtabula, the son of Carl Hugo and Maude Ellen (Olin) Talcott and had lived in Jefferson since 1940. 

He married Abby Ann Metcalf on Dec. 12, 1942 and they celebrated 64 years together.

A graduate of Ashtabula High School, he worked as an electrician for Olin Matheson and later taught Industrial Electricity for 10 years at the Ashtabula Co. Joint Vocational School. He was  also a lifelong farmer.

Francis trained and raced harness horses professionally for over 20 years and was well known at the Ashtabula County Fairground for this passion. He was also a gifted craftsman and wood turner, making everything from decorative bowls to canoes. A member of the Madhatter’s Canoe Club, the REACT CB Club, and the Ashtabula Yacht Club, he was an avid sports fan and served as Jefferson High School’s Assistant Track Coach for many years.

A longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, Francis will never be forgotten for his unique and independent way of doing things and will be truly missed by all that knew and loved him.

His survivors include four children, Thomas H. (Mary Ellen) Talcott and Susan A. Talcott, both of Jefferson, Randy (Terri) Talcott of Denmark Township and Patricia E. (Thomas) Salo of Stow; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Abby Ann Talcott on Jan. 3, 2007; one sister, Wilma Kitson; and his parents.

A Calling Hour will be at the First Presbyterian Church, 4317 Park Ave., Ashtabula on Saturday, Oct. 12th from 10 to 11 a.m., with a Service to follow at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. Stephen R. Long, Pastor officiating.
