JEFFERSON — Lawrence C. Gollon Sr., age 88, a lifelong Jefferson resident, died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 21, 2013, at the Jefferson Healthcare Center.
He was born Sept. 9, 1925, in Jefferson, Ohio, the son of Max and Anna (Drawert) Gollon and still resided in the house he was born in. Mr. Gollon was married to Jane L. Nelson on April 17, 1948, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Geneva, Ohio.
A Veteran of the U. S. Army, Mr. Gollon was proud of his military service in World War II. He served with Company K 341st Infantry Regiment 86th Division. He received the American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal.
Mr. Gollon was a 1987 retired electrician from the RMI Titanium Plant.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed maintaining the family farm.
He is survived by two children, Janice L. (Dennis) Russell of Dorset and Larry C. (Joyce) Gollon Jr. of Pickerington; three grandchildren, Christopher (Melissa) Russell, Danielle (Daniel) Denney and Renee (Josh) Mason; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Wright of Dunnellon, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jane in 1988; his long-time companion, Nelda Black; three brothers, Henry, Arnold and Robert Gollon; and a sister, Esther Ely.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 27th, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 89 E. Satin St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Fred Grimm officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery with Geneva VFW Post #6846 offering Military Honors.
Calling Hours will be held Thursday, Sept. 26th, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Jefferson Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS AND CREMATORY, INC., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson.
