ASHTABULA — Florence Luewellyn Jones, age 63, of Ashtabula, Ohio, went on to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at her home.
Florence was born June 3, 1950, in Slab Fork, W.Va., to John Henry Reynolds and Nellie Lee (Reynolds) Foster. As a child she moved with her family to Ashtabula, she remained a longtime area resident. A graduate of Ashtabula high School, she and her classmates recently celebrated their forty-fifth class reunion.
Florence was united in marriage to Lester Jones Jr. for forty-two years and together they had one daughter, Darla J. Jones, of Ashtabula.
Florence loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren and was often noted as the matriarch.
Florence worked and retired from the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company/First Energy Corp. with over thirty-five years of dedicated service. She was an advocate for helping others and for over twenty years she was a dedicated worker for the Share Your Christmas Foundation for CEI/First Energy Corp.
In 1996, she received the ABWA (Ashtabula Business Women Association) Anchors Aweigh Charter Chapter Recognition Award for Associate Boss of the Year.
A faithful and active member of Peoples Missionary Baptist Church all of her life, Florence was dedicated to several ministries. Serving on the Trustee Board for twenty-five years; President of the Faithful Ruth Missionary Society for twenty-one years; Sunday Church School Teacher for nineteen years; Sunday Church School Superintendent for three years; and President of the Kitchen Committee for seven years, where she served as a Cook for fifteen years.
Florence was biblically well educated and traveled the United States with the National Baptist Convention, USA Incorporated and the Sunday School Publishing Board December Conferences. With all of her knowledge, she gained her Deans Certification March 2001. She was the Assistant Dean and an Instructor with the United Missionary Baptist State Convention of Ohio for twelve years. In addition, she was an Instructor for the Union Missionary Baptist District Association for over twenty years.
