Alvin C. Loomis

SHEFFIELD TOWNSHIP — Alvin C. Loomis, age 75, of Sheffield Township, died peacefully in his home on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 3, 2012.

He was born April, 28, 1937, in Painesville, the son of Paul and Belle (Brown) Loomis and had resided in this area for most of his life. On Dec. 28, 1955, Alvin and Dorlene G. “Dee” Braden were married in Lawrenceburg, Ind.

Alvin drove truck for Wenham and then for Best Way where he would go on to retire in 1998 after 46 years in the business. He enjoyed playing cards especially poker. He played bass in the “Back Roads” band with his brothers during square dancing events. He was a proud member of the Sheffield Township Fire Department and he and his wife were the first two licensed EMT’s in Sheffield Township.

He also drove teams of horses with his son Randy and grandson Josh. He was a member of Ashtabula Baptist Church and he truly loved the Lord. However, his greatest love was that of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His survivors include his wife, Dorlene; five children, Penny L. Loomis of Cleveland, Tenn., Randy L. (Beth) Loomis of Jefferson, Rosemary L. Loomis of Atlanta, Ga., Cindy L. Loomis of Conneaut and Becky P. Loomis of Jefferson; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Hazel Housel and Marion Porter, both of Pierpont.

He was preceded in death by his son John D. Loomis; great-grandson, Hayden Sackett; four brothers, Donald “Doc”, Eugene, Paul and Bobby Loomis; and a sister, Mable White.

Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 6th, at the Jefferson Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. James Ekensten, of Ashtabula Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Gageville Cemetery. A dinner will be held immediately following at the Sheffield Fire Hall for friends and family, are all welcome.

Calling Hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., TODAY, Oct. 5th, at the Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the family, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
