Alma M. VanWinkle, age 86, passed away peacefully following a brief illness on Thursday, May 30, 2014, at Ashtabula County Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Sept. 16, 1927, in Edinburg, Ohio, the daughter of the late Calvin and Mary (Corbett) Pinney. She married the love of her life, Ross W. VanWinkle on May 24, 1946.
Alma worked at the local A&P Grocery, was a loving and caring stay-at-home mom raising seven children, and later worked at Carlisle’s Department Store. She was a member of the New Apostolic Church for more than 40 years. She enjoyed playing card games and bingo with her family and friends, assembling jigsaw puzzles, and doing Sudoku puzzles.
She is survived by her children, Mary E. Gonzales of Ashtabula, Ivan L. VanWinkle of Tuscan, Ariz., Anna L. Peterson of Ashtabula, Sara L. (Nelson) Felt of Gowanda, N.Y., Beth E. (Karl) Schuett of Ashtabula and Jane E. (John) Northrup of Olean, N.Y.; 22 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Alma was preceded in death by her husband, Ross; her daughter, Ruth A. (Dean) Nottingham; her granddaughter, Trixy Peterson; and her 9 siblings.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 3rd, at New Apostolic Church, 5802 Cemetery Road, Kingsville, Ohio. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the New Apostolic Church, World Relief Fund.
