OAKLAWN, Ill. — Willie Louis, age 76, went to the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, July 18, 2013.
He was born in Greenwood, Miss. on June 14, 1937, to Edith Reed and Joseph Louis.
It was getting late in the Evening and the sun was going down. Willie Louis was preparing to go home. The sun went down at Christ Hospital in Oaklawn, Ill., July 18th around 10:30 p.m. and he went home.
Willie worked at Jackson Park Hospital for over 50 years as a Surgery Transport, where he met his wife, Juliet Louis, a registered nurse in ICU. A deacon at New Commandment Church of God in Christ in Chicago, Ill., he enjoyed fishing and camping (especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren when they came up in the summer), traveling, and a trip to somewhere when his son Sollie would visit every year.
Willie Louis leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Juliet Louis of 37 years; his son, Sollie (wife Kim) McKinnon of Ashtabula; two sisters-in-law from Ashtabula, Barbara Jean Moore and Francise Hollaman and their spouses, Lenell Moore and Will Hollaman; and two brothers-in-law, Eugene Mendenhall and Johnny Smith, both of Ashtabula; his grandchildren, Sollie McKinnon Jr. (and wife) of Ashtabula, Frankie (and wife), Nicole (and Husband) of Kansas, Tasha of South Carolina, and Leroy Derricoatte (and wife Valerie) and Eric Derricoatte, both of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Edith Reed; grandson, Damon Derricoatte; two aunts, Mattie B. Sherrod and Rosie Lee Watkins of Detroit, Mich.; an uncle, James (Ruthie) of Chicago, Ill.; two uncles-in-law, Willie C. Sherrod and Johnny Collans; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral Services will be held 12 Noon, Monday, July 29th, at ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio, with the Rev. Steven Sargent, of Hiawatha COGIC, officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery, Ashtabula.
A Calling Hour will be observed from 11 a.m. until time of Service at 12 Noon, Monday, at the Funeral Home.
