ASHTABULA — Shirley I. Grippe, age 76, of Ashtabula, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at the Cleveland Clinic.
Born on Feb. 4, 1937, in Phillipi, W.Va., to her parents, Earl and Marie (Curkendall) Payne. She married the love of her life, Sam Grippe on June 16, 1956.
She worked at Rockwell Plastics for many years and later worked for the Ashtabula Area City Schools in the cafeteria for 18 years. She loved all the kids and made many friends throughout the years.
She enjoyed watching ice skating or any dancing show while doing her puzzle books.
Family was her #1. She was the rock and everyone who met her loved her. She enjoyed praising her grandchildren at any opportunity. Her great-grandchildren, Trey Juhola, Jeremy (J.J.) Murphy Jr. and Samantha “Sami” Murphy, were her world. She loved watching them play and teaching them new things.
She adopted many people into her family and she was always ready to feed you or offer coffee. She was an amazing wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother “G.G.” and friend.
She is survived by her husband, Sam Grippe; her daughters, Zana Juhola and Julie (Andy) Juhola; her brothers, Hershel, Bill and Joe Payne, a sister, Iris Ramsey; her grandchildren, Andria, Danny and Ryan Juhola; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Teddy and Mason Payne; and a sister, Lorraine Cox.
Funeral Service will be held 1 p.m., Monday, July 29th, at GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula, with Deacon Daniel Finnerty, of Our Lady of Peace Parish, officiating. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of Service, Monday, at the Funeral Home.
