NORTH KINGSVILLE — Elizabeth M. Carnegie, age 90, formerly of E. Center St., North Kingsville, passed away Sunday evening, Dec. 23, 2012, at Saybrook Landing.

Mrs. Carnegie was born July 2, 1922, in Conneaut, Ohio, the daughter of Francis B. and Mary (nee Lester) Stearns. She graduated from Conneaut High School Class of 1942 and the St. John Hospital Cleveland School of Nursing.

Elizabeth retired in 1982 after 34 years of service from Ashtabula County Medical Center as the Director of Nursing. She served as director of the Ashtabula Marine Museum from 1993 until 1999 and from 2001 until 2008. Her memberships include the Power Squadron, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Irish Colleens and the Studebaker Club.

Betty and her husband enjoyed 21 trips aboard the Delta Queen and enjoyed traveling on the many rivers.

Mrs. Carnegie is survived by her nephews, Scott Laird of Bellevue and Bill Laird of Cleveland; several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins; and her Thursday night gang, Carol and Ken Novak, Tim and Joan Hewlett, Chuck and Sharon Dewey and Laura and Steve Stewart.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Herman E. Carnegie; sisters, Margaret Stearns and Catherine Laird; and nephews, Duane and Jim Laird.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Friday, Dec, 28th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 480 State St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Fr. Phillip Miller, presiding. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens.

Friends may call at THOMPSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 345 Main St., Conneaut, on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., where the Catholic Daughters of the Americas will hold a Service at 6 p.m.
