AVON — Kathryn Ann “Kate” Smoker (née: Knueve), age 35, of Avon, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 7, 2014.
She was born on Jan. 21, 1979, in Defiance, Ohio, to Donald and Margaret Mary "Peg" (née: Crimmings) Knueve. Kate graduated from Defiance High School in 1998, Baldwin Wallace College in 2002 earning her Bachelor Degree in Vocal Performance, and Case Western Reserve University in 2008 earning her Masters Degree in Music Education.
Kate made her career as a Music Teacher at Canterbury Elementary and Gearity Elementary Schools in Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District, and served as the Youth Choir Director at Middleburg Heights Community Church since 2008.
She had a passion for music and loved singing and performing. She also enjoyed reading, watching movies, taking walks and spending time with her family and friends. Kate had an infectious personality and everyone loved her, people were always drawn to her. She had an amazing way with children, she loved them and they loved her.
Kate is survived by her husband of 10 years, Matthew Smoker; children, Sebastian and Jillian Smoker; parents, Donald and Margaret Mary "Peg" Knueve of Defiance; brothers, Eric (Kelly) Knueve of Verona, Wis., and Kurt (Sara) Knueve of Verona, Wis.; niece, Anna Knueve; nephews, Will and Kasey Knueve; and in-laws, Ronald and Patricia Smoker of Austinburg.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Robert and Mabel Crimmings and Arnold and Norma Knueve.
