ASHTABULA — Wesley Alvin Fenton, age 80, of Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013, at Country Club Retirement Center.

He was born Feb. 19, 1933, in Saybrook Township, Ohio, the son of Joe and Martha (Kent) Fenton and had been a lifelong area resident.

As a youth, his parents raised him in the Seventh Day Adventist Church and he had always been a man of faith.

A Veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in Germany during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a switchman on the New York Central Railroad.

He was a gifted boxer and once considered turning professional in the sport. Wesley was also an avid hunter and enjoyed guns.

His survivors include his wife of nearly 54 years, Betty Fenton of Austinburg; five sons, Bruce (Debbie) Fenton, Lindsley “Lenny” (Sue) Fenton and Douglas  (Ruth) Fenton, all of Ashtabula, Kim (Abbie) Fenton of Hollywood, Fla., and Craig Fenton of Austinburg; one step-daughter, Brenda Angle of Ashtabula; one step-son, Gary Angle of Slidell, La.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Kent (“Frankie”)  Fenton of Knoxville, Tenn.; and one sister, Joyce (Ed) Fenton of Ashtabula.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Dwight, Eugene, and Duane Fenton.

A Calling Hour will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with a Service at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 27th, at the Greenlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, 3140 E. Center St., North Kingsville. Pastor Gifford Baker, of Friends in Christ Bible Fellowship, will officiate with Full Military Honors to follow. Burial will be in the Greenlawn’s Veterans Garden of Honor.
