COLUMBUS — Esther Jean Kent, age 78, formerly of Ashtabula, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Forest Hills Center in Columbus, Ohio.
She was born Dec. 4, 1935, in Girard, Pa., the daughter of Walter and Ruth (Sherman) McKay. She graduated from Girard High School and graduated with a Bachelors’ in Education from Villa Maria College in Erie.
She taught for ten years until she retired to raise her family. She enjoyed politics, gardening, canning, going for car rides looking at fall leaves but most of all she enjoyed her family.
Surviving her is her son, Douglas J. (Michele) Kent of Dublin, Ohio; a daughter, Lara J. (Mike) Groetken of LeMars, Iowa; three grandchildren, Paige, Eric and Sam; her brother, Robert McKay of Florida; and three sisters, Ruth Jacobs, Judith McKay and Kathleen Porter, all of Pennsylvania.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Digby Kent in 1998.
Funeral Service will be held 3 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21st, at the Ashtabula Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS AND CREMATORY, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Long, of First United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
Calling Hours will be Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of Service at the Funeral Home.
