JEFFERSON — Esther Louise (Quirke) Gillespie, age 71, died unexpectedly and was received into the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014.

Esther was born on June 19, 1942, in Conneaut, Ohio, to the late John and Eileen (Johns) Quirke. She was married to Johnnie Gillespie on March 4, 1967, and celebrated over thirty-one years of love and marriage before his death in 1999.

Esther attended Harbor High School and graduated from Perry High. Her work career led her to the pathology department of Lake West Hospital, Buckeye Title Corporation, Kiesel Physical Therapy and finally retirement from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Recently she had been working from home doing medical transcription.

A woman of many talents, Esther was well-known for her sewing and cooking. Her specialty was creating and hand beading wedding dresses. She also loved to work at her catering business, Fishes and Loaves, with her two daughters, Jennifer and Lyn. Her other passion was her beloved church, Jefferson First Baptist Church. Esther was a faithful and active member for over 30 years and was deeply committed in many activities there. God gave her many talents of which cooking, music, and helping to design and decorate for the annual Cornell Christmas Concert were among them.

Esther will be remembered for her deep faith and love of the Lord. She never failed to tell anyone how great and wonderful God’s love was for them. Her love of friends and family was unconditional, never judging, only loving you for who are. Her sense of humor and loving ways endeared her to many people over the years.

She leaves behind four children and their spouses, Eric (Nichole) Gillespie of Ashtabula, Jennifer (Gary) Godleski of Geneva, Lyn (Eric) Goodge of Rock Creek and Mark (Stacey) Gillespie of Jefferson. She has eight grandchildren who were the light of her life. The love Esther shared with her grandchildren was unmeasurable; Madeline, Joseph, Daniel, Mason, Meghan, Colton, Eileen and Cooper, will always and forever love their grandma. The many friends of her grandchildren also loved and respected Esther. Her home was always filled not with just grandchildren, but their friends, Surviving are her two brothers, John (Janet) Quirke of Hubbard and Paul (Karen) Quirke of Spokane, Wash.; and many loving nephews and nieces.

As well, she leaves behind many dear friends including those from her 1st Baptist Sunday school class, especially Joan Carolin and Jamie Broadbent.

She was preceded in death by her cherished and beloved husband, John; her parents; and her brother, Patrick Quirke.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 14th, at the First Baptist Church, 85 W. Jefferson St.,, Jefferson, Ohio 44047. Pastor Ed Pickard will officiate. Burial will be in Lenox Cemetery.

Calling Hours will be observed from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13th, at the Church.
