BRADENTON, Fla. — John N. Ray, age 80, of Erie, Pa., and Bradenton, Fla., died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, in Bradenton.
He was born June 24, 1933, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the son of the late James and Neta Peterangelo Ray.
A Veteran, John had served with the U.S. Army during the Korean war, and for many years was a manager and insurance agent for the Baltimore Life Insurance office in Erie.
He loved being near the water and enjoyed fishing both in Erie and Florida, as well as playing golf. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW and the Elks Clubs, both in Erie and Florida. John had attended St. Jude Catholic Church in Erie.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Giselle Beaulieu Ray, who died in 2012; and a brother, Cosmos Ray.
John is survived by his four children, Maria Minnaugh and her husband, Joseph, of Erie, John Ray and his wife, Janette, of Alexandria, Va., Paul Ray of Erie and Nancy Herbe and her husband, Jeff, of Erie. He is the brother of Donald Ray of Harborcreek and is further survived by nine grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
Friends are invited to call at the JOHN J. QUINN FUNERAL HOME, 728 West 9th St., Erie, Pa., on Friday, Dec. 6th, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend Prayer Services there on Saturday, Dec. 7th, at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church. Burial with Military Honors will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Elks Lodge #67 will conduct Services on Friday at 6 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
