CORTLAND — Ezma M. Pears, age 84, formerly of Hermitage, Pa., passed away peacefully following a brief illness late Wednesday morning, May 1, 2013, at Lake Vista Nursing Home, Cortland, Ohio.
Ezma was born on July 2, 1928, to James and Alberta (Mullen) Bewley in Sharon, Pa. She graduated from Sharon High School, Class of 1946. On Sept. 18, 1954, she married the late Robert F. Pears who passed away May 5, 1981.
Ezma worked in housekeeping for Shenango Valley Osteopathic Hospital. She also worked for Bell Telephone and L & L Laundromat and Dry Cleaner.
She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church; a member of Sharon VFW Post #1338, Ladies Auxiliary, and was a past President of the Ladies Auxiliary; a Girl Scout Leader; and a Sunday school teacher at St. Johns. She also volunteered at the Shenango Valley Osteopathic Hospital.
Ezma enjoyed crossword puzzles, her pet dogs and cats, reading, and flower gardening.
Ezma is survived by her three daughters, Mary Jo Pears of Franklin, Pa., Deb (Matthew) Ray of Colebrook, Ohio, and Roberta Pears of Hermitage, Pa.; sister, Bertha Bewley of Sharon, Pa.; granddaughter, Olivia Ray; grandson, Joey Ray; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert F. Pears; and brothers, Jesse Bewley and James "Fred" Bewley.
Visitation will be held TODAY, Friday, May 3rd, from 5 to 8 p.m. at STEPHEN J. SHERMAN FUNERAL HOME, 2201 Highland Road, Hermitage, Pa.
Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 4th, at the Funeral Home, with Father Adam Trambley, officiating. Burial will take place in the Hillcrest Memorial Park.
