ASHTABULA — Shirley Christine Mickelson, age 83, died Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at her home.
The daughter of Lloyd and Selma (Johnson) Ecklund she was born in Ravenna, Ohio, on May 24, 1930 and was a longtime Ashtabula resident. Shirley graduated from Harbor High School class of 1948.
In 1954, she married John Neil Patterson and together they spent the next twenty-five years in Chagrin Falls raising their children. After her husband died in 1980, Shirley returned to Ashtabula, eventually becoming the Director of Homesafe. In 1987, she married Maynard Mickelson and they spent the next seventeen years living in the Harbor while wintering in Florida. After Maynard’s death in 2004, Shirley remained in Ashtabula.
Shirley was an avid gardener, with a love of quilting; but she especially enjoyed her monthly luncheons with her Harbor High School classmates.
She is survived by her son, Bruce (Pam) Patterson of Hiram Ohio; her daughter, Amy (Mike) Patterson of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three grandchildren, Britt of Naples, Fla., Jordan of New York City and Ben of Gainesville, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, John Neil Patterson in 1980; her second husband, Maynard Mickelson in 2004.
A Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be announced at a later date.
