Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She cherished her family and the time they spent together. Cooking and baking brought great pleasure to her by using traditional recipes and sharing them with family and friends. The holiday baking was an annual tradition that has spread across the generations with an excitement for the ham pies, rice pies, molasses cookies and cream puffs. Following the death of her father, Mary worked diligently to continue the Annual Pavolino Family Reunion held the first Sunday in July, serving as an officer for several terms. She was married to her husband, Frank Bernato, on March 29, 1944, by Msgr. John J. Davidson.
Survivors include her daughter, Rosemary Bernato; son, Frank (Bonnie) Bernato; three grandsons, Anthony (Amy) Bernato of Ashtabula, Michael (Kim Sarvis) Bernato of Madison and Thomas Bernato of Massilon; two great-granddaughters, Kimberly Roxberry and Emily Bernato; one brother, Vincent Pavolino; sisters-in-law, Joanne Pavolino and Jean Pavolino; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers, Cosmos and Louis Pavolino; sisters-in-law, Bridget, Paulyne and Irene Pavolino; nephews, Dennis Pavolino and Robert Lampela; and niece, Jamie Pavolino Donatone.
