NEW LYME — Richard A. Scribben, age 76, died on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at his residence after a long illness.
Born on Dec. 6, 1935, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of Michael R. and Mary (Leonard) Scribben.
Richard graduated from New Lyme High School in 1954, where he played Varsity Basketball for the Deming Rangers. He was inducted into the Ashtabula County Basketball Hall of Fame in 2005 and ranked number 10 in all time scores in the county.
A Veteran, he served as a M.P. in the U.S. Army from 1958-1964 and received the Good Conduct Medal. Richard was employed for Rotor Tool in Euclid as a precision machinist for 20 years. There his leadership skills advanced him to the position of UAW Local President and then he was promoted to plant manager. He eventually retired from Reliance Electric in Ashtabula.
His survivors include his wife, Rita F. (Bivens), whom he married in August 1972; sons, Richard Shawn (Shelby) Scribben of New Lyme and Eric Christopher (Angie) Scribben of Springfield; brother, Leonard (Marie) Scribben of Rock Creek; grandchildren, Tristen, Seth and Emilia Scribben; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Bernard and Michael Scribben.
A Funeral Mass, officiated by The Rev. G. David Weikart, will be celebrated 10 a.m., on Friday, Oct. 19th, at St. Mary Church, 103 N. Maple St., Orwell, Ohio. Interment will follow at the St. Mary Cemetery with U.S. Military Honors.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the PAINE-GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 140 E. Main St., Orwell, Ohio 44076, on Thursday, Oct. 18th.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to South Central Ambulance District, 3100 US Highway 6, Rome, Ohio 44085, envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.
