CONNEAUT — Donald E. Fenton, age 81, of Footville-Richmond Road East, Jefferson, Ohio, died Monday morning, Oct. 21, 2013, at Villa on the Lake in Conneaut, Ohio.
Born Nov. 5, 1931, in Pierpont, Ohio, he was the son of Harold G. and Mary B. (Richcreek) Fenton. He was a graduate of Conneaut High School and resided in Ashtabula County his entire life.
He worked for over 50 years as a tool and die maker.
He became a member of the Masonic Lodge when he was 19 years old. He has been a loyal Charter member and a past worthy officer of the Jefferson Eagles Aerie Lodge 3881. A past member of the Ashtabula County Fair board. He was a proud harness horse owner, trainer and driver. Don was also a proud member of OHHA (Ohio Harness Horseman’s Association).
He is survived by his children, Dan H. (Melissa) Fenton of Monroe Township, Jeff R. (Joyce) Fenton of Lenox Township and Don G. Fenton of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister, Leta Mae (Gene) White of Cherryhill, Pa.; six beautiful grandchildren, Jacob (Erica) Fenton of Kingsville, Bethany (Dennis Arcaro) Watts of Ashtabula, Jack Fenton of Orlando, Fla., Daniel Fenton of Jacksonville, Fla., Tammy (Firman) Yoder of Sugarcreek, Ohio, and Rick (Gina) Zehnder of Ash, N.C.; eight precious great-grandchildren, Olivia and Sophia Fenton, Ashley (Joe) Varga, Allison (Zach) Yoder, Austin Yoder, Cassie, Drew and Madyson Zehnder; great-great-grandchildren, Josclin and Clairen Varga, Deegan, Keaton and Andyn Yoder; and many other loving extended family members; stepson, Mike (Kriss) Miller of Dorset, whom Don was very close to and stepson, Clair Umholtz of Northfield, Ohio, who shared in the same passion for horse racing as Don did and became a harness horse owner, trainer and driver himself.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two former wives, Sally Miller and Maxine Gochneaur; a sister, Audrey Beach; and twin great-grandchildren, Joshua David and Gracie Marie Fenton.
