AUSTINBURG TOWNSHIP — Lucian P. Tenney, age 90, of Edgemere Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at the Austinburg Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Born Feb. 18, 1923, in Ten Mile, W.Va., he was the son of Dewey A. and Pearl Tenney.
A Veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He married Avalon Virginia Hollen on Dec. 26, 1949.
He was employed as a machinist for Reliance Electric until his retirement after more than 35 years.
He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Ashtabula, where he served as a Deacon and a long-time Sunday School teacher.
He enjoyed sports and was a star Baseball pitcher in his younger years and was scouted by the Cleveland Indians; he also was a champion Volley Ball player and also enjoyed Golf and Hand Ball.
Surviving him is his wife, Avalon V. Tenney; his daughter, Rhonda G. Reed of Ashtabula; three grandchildren, Ryan Reed, Tracey Reed and Rebecca Reed Pilanco; four great-grandchildren, Corinne, Morgan, Zachary and Calvin; and a sister, Verna Pickett of Fairfield, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Gina Gay Tenney in 1985; two sisters, Naomi Montgomery and Avis Smallridge; and two brothers, Virgil Tenney and Lavon Tenney.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 21st, at the First Baptist Church of Ashtabula, 4353 Park Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. David Hines officiating. Burial will be in Ridgeview Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be Sunday, Oct. 20th, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Ashtabula Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, INC., 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
