ASHTABULA — Estelle Jackson, age 88, was called to her eternal home on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, with the love of her family escorting her to her reward.

The daughter of Chris and Sammie Lou Miller, she was born on April 26, 1925, in Louisville, Miss. She had made her home in Ashtabula for over fifty years.

She was a cook for the former Garfield’s Restaurant, where she made many friends over the years. Her friends and family always looked forward to her egg custard and sweet potato pie.

A faithful and active member of Peoples Missionary Baptist Church for many years, her giving and helping spirit will be remembered with love. Estelle was a former President of the Mother’s Board, sang in the Gospel Choir, and was also a member of the Ushers Board. She was involved with the Faithful Ruth Missionary Group and other mission work of the church. Estelle loved her church, its members, and her Pastor. To further her Christian education, Estelle attended the Baptist Training Union and her Sunday school classes. She enjoyed shopping and spent many hours volunteering for G.O. Ministries food bank, where she shared her testimony  with those she served.

Estelle is survived by her beloved children, Merlin (Rev. Andrew) Thompson, Alberta Gray Wolford, Bobby Gray, Ada (Luddie) Carmichael and Stella Gray Noce, all of Ashtabula; eight grandchildren, Jacqueline (Leonard) Pratt, Robert Gray, Kenneth Gray, Jazmine Ramos, Inez Ramos, Lucas Williams, Christopher Gray, Kirtlyn Gray, and Rosalind Young; 10 beloved great-grandchildren; four precious great-great-grandchildren;  siblings, Pearlie (Veora) Marsh of Ashtabula and Sally (Charles) Cooper and Emma Jane McKinney, both of Louisville, Miss.; god-daughters, Dorothy Harris, Cathy Fleming, Mildred Evans, Diana Sheasley and Montrose Grandberry; many loving nieces and nephews; her closest and dearest friends, Erma Jean Holley and Nell Lampkin; and her church family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jackson; siblings, Henry Miller, O.D. Miller, Clara Miller, and Nancy Coleman; her son-in-law, Albert Thompson; and her parents.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 16th, at Peoples Missionary Baptist Church, 3837 West Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Dr. German Womack officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.

A Calling Hour will be observed from 10 a.m. until time of Service on Wednesday, at the Church.
