DORSET — John E. Spencer, age 80, of Dorset, Ohio, died Sunday, August 18, 2013, at his home.
He was born August 28, 1932, in Dorset, Ohio, a son of Kline and Nellie (Evans) Spencer. A lifetime area resident, Mr. Spencer was a Veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Army.
He retired as a teacher from the Ashtabula County Joint Vocational School; and he also was employed by the Ashtabula Rubber Plant. After retirement, he worked on small engine repairs out of his home.
Mr. Spencer earned his pilot license at a young age and continued on to enjoy flying over the years. He enjoyed working around his yard; and working with saws and small engines.
Mr. Spencer is survived by his wife, Shirley M. (Klingensmith) Spencer, whom he married May 20, 1955, of Dorset, Ohio; his three sons, John M. (Marina) Spencer of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Donald Spencer and Todd Spencer, both of Dorset, Ohio; one granddaughter, Sasha Spencer of Ashtabula; one brother, David Spencer of Easley, S.C.; and four sisters, Claudia Jewell of Dorset, Ohio, Janet Smith of Conneaut, Ohio, Joan Burns of Albion, Pa. and Sandra Hill of Andover, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers and sisters.
Private services will be held for the family.
