CLEVELAND — Alice Virginia (Gillespie) Lewis, age 80, of Monroe Township, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at the Cleveland Clinic.
Alice was born Sept. 11, 1933, in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., the daughter of Joseph and Una Pearl (Perry) Gillespie. She moved to Ohio when she was 14 years-old and has been a lifelong area resident ever since. On Jan. 8, 1951, Alice married Melvin Lewis who preceded her in death in 1976.
Alice retired from the Ashtabula County Nursing Home in 1998 after more than 21 years of service.
She loved reading, embroidering, quilting and watching old western movies, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.
Alice is survived by her children, Melvin Robert Lewis, Virginia Lee Buser and her husband, Paul, and Calvin Lester Lewis and his wife, Colleen, all of Kingsville; grandchildren, Sara Hassell, Patience (Shawn) Myers, Christopher Lewis, Kenton (Char) Lewis and Kimberly Buser; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin Lewis; great-grandson, Cory Lewis; and brothers, Robert Ned Gillespie and Johnnie Franklin Gillespie.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, March 1st, at DUCRO FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICE, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio, with the Rev. Mary Susan Pisano, Pastor of Kingsville Presbyterian Church, presiding.
Calling Hour will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of Service at 11 a.m. Burial will be next to her husband in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
