MONROE TOWNSHIP — John W. “Wes” Watson Sr., age 83, of Monroe Township, Ohio, passed away Wednesday evening, Feb. 19, 2014, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.

Born July 22, 1930, in Warsaw, N.Y., Wes was the son of the Revs. Milo L. and Ida B. (Dutton) Watson. An area resident most of his life, he was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served in Korea during the Korean War.

He worked for 20 years as a truck driver for Inland Container, Westinghouse, and Ranger and was an OTR truck driver for Presque Isle Corp. in Erie, Pa. He was a member of American Legion Neal Post #743 and the V.F.W. of Sidney, Ohio. He enjoyed camping, woodworking, Nascar, driving stock cars, and being in involved in his grandchildren’s interests.

Survivors include his wife, Lois (Loesch) whom he married Oct. 25, 1952; daughter, Sandy (Randy) Southern of Summerville, N.C.; five sons, John (Diane) Watson Jr. of Kelloggsville, Ohio, Robert D. (Diane) Watson of Monroe Township, Don (Kathy) Watson of Conneaut, Ohio, Micah (Mary Ann) Watson of Kingsville, Ohio and Gary Watson of Tacoma, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and more distant relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Brad Watson; a great-grandson Gary L. Annick III; sisters, Dortha Caldwell, Genevieve Godfrey, Helen Sprowl and Hilda Erickson; and his brother, Rev. Gerald Watson.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 24th, at MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Ohio, with Pastor Joe Ernspiker, of Living Water Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Kelloggsville Cemetery, Monroe Township, with Military Honors provided by American Legion Neal Post #743 and Cowle Post #151.

Calling Hours will be at the Funeral Home on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of Service.
