ASHTABULA — Juan “Tony” Santiago Jr., age 81, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center after his battle with leukemia.
He was born May 2, 1932, in Utuado, Puerto Rico, and has been an area residence since 1949.
Tony worked for Conrail/CSX for 45 years, retiring in 1993.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Mission and a member of the M.D.M Society.
He loved spending time working outside in his garden and enjoyed watching many sports, especially the Cleveland Indians.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Santiago (Collette- Gioiello), to whom he was married for over 44 years; three brothers, Miguel (Luisa) Santiago of Ashtabula, Jose L. and Juan Santiago, both of Puerto Rico; two sisters, Maria M. Ramirez and Carmen J. Maestri, both of Puerto Rico; two brothers-in-law, Tony G. Collette and Sam Collette, both of Ashtabula; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Maria Theresa Avarez; a brother, Francisco J. Santiago; two brothers-in-law, Shy Collette and David Gioiello; two sisters-in-law, Maime Collette and Mary Raffenaud; and a stepson, Carmen James Felice, whom he was very close with.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31st, in Our Lady of Peace, St. Joseph’s Parish, 3330 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Father Raymond Thomas as celebrant. Burial to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Today, Wednesday, Oct. 30th, from 5 to 7 p.m. at GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 1550 West 19th St., Ashtabula.
