Star Beacon

AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Lois Dunnington, age 69, formerly of Conneaut, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, Fla., after a prolonged battle with cancer. Her devoted daughter, Sara Thompson, was by her side.

Lois was born in 1943 to Beverly (née: Bailey) and Pearl Dunnington of Conneaut and graduated from Conneaut’s Rowe High School in 1961. She attended and was a graduate of Hamot Hospital School of Nursing in Erie, Pa.

As a registered nurse, she worked in pediatrics and ambulatory nurse at Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y. In 2001 upon moving to Winter Haven, Fla., she worked as a hospice nurse for Good Shepherd Hospice.

Lois loved to drive and visit family and friends. She enjoyed reading, crossword-puzzles and people-watching. Kind and creative, she loved to commemorate special events in the lives of those she loved by writing, and often reciting, a humorous poem.

Lois is survived by her three children, Robert Thompson of North Charleston, S.C., Marijo Thompson of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Sara Thompson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and two beloved grandchildren, Indy Chattin-Thompson and Pellie Jane Chattin-Thompson of Brooklyn, N.Y. She is also survived by her two siblings, Marijo Puffer of Winter Haven, Fla., and James Dunnington of Rochester, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews; and also by her dear lifelong friend, Ruthie Daniel.
