Betty V. Braun

ASHTABULA — Betty Virginia Braun, age 90, passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at Carington Park.

She was born June 21, 1923, in Ashtabula, the daughter of Lewis T. and Esther (Bliss) Webb and had been a lifelong Ashtabula resident. She graduated in 1941 from Ashtabula High School where she was head drum majorette and was elected May Queen. She later became a member of the last graduating class of the Ashtabula General Hospital Nursing Program.

She met Bill Braun at the Sugar Bowl while he was stationed here in Ashtabula for the U.S Coast Guard and married him in October of 1943.

A registered nurse at the Ashtabula General Hospital for 35 years, she was truly dedicated to her job, a career she had always wanted to join since her childhood. She enjoyed taking care of all her patients (especially those on the 2 North surgery floor) and the new mothers and babies on the maternity floor.

Betty was proud to be baptized by the Rev. Dr. Stephen R. Long, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church on March 9, 2010 at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home. She enjoyed shopping, reading, and Pepsi cola. She liked pansies and was especially fond of her beloved Pomeranian, “Sara.” A wonderful mother and grandma, she was also a best friend to her children. The three children have wonderful memories of the times they enjoyed at their cottage on the Grand River when they were young.

Her survivors include three daughters, Becky (William) Halman of Ashtabula, Beth (Ken) Hoyle of Mayfield Heights and Bettina Braun of Ashtabula; six grandchildren, Aaron, Sarah, Eric (Jen), Carrie, Cathy and Crissy Hoyle; and four great-grandchildren, Erin, Rachel, Jay and Alyssa Hoyle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Braun on June 2, 1996; one grandson, Jay Hoyle; one sister, Ida Jeanne Myers; one brother, Terry Webb; and her parents.

A Service for family and friends will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8th, at the family gravesite at Ridgeview Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Stephen R. Long, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, will officiate.

Contributions may be made to the family. CHILDS & WILLIAMS FAMILY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
