JEFFERSON — Viola Bertha (Weagraff) Fischer, age 87, died Thursday, April 18, 2013, with her loving family at her side; at Jefferson Health Care where she had resided since 2010.

The daughter of Albert and Ada (Best) Weagraff, she was born in Knox, Pa., on Sept. 26, 1925, and had been a life-long area resident.

On May 9, 1945, she married her husband, Elmer J. Fischer, and together they celebrated twenty-one years of marriage operating the family farm until his death in 1966. After Elmer died, Viola went to work at Premix where she was a press operator for 18 years before her retirement.

Viola was a long-time faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in Ashtabula.

A wonderful baker and cook, her friends and family looked forward to her many talents in the kitchen. In her later years, she kept her mind active and gained pleasure from watching television: Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader. A Cleveland Indians fan, her favorite all time player was Jim Thome; she always hoped and believed that the Tribe would do better next year.

Viola love to sit and reminisce about times past; and how much the world had changed since she was a young child and adult. During her many frequent conversations with her family, Viola enjoyed hearing about their exploits. From sports to grades to new ideas, she was involved and encouraged them all to do their best.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Viola Jones of Jefferson; three grandchildren, Marty Fischer, Karen (Patrick) Fischer-Smith and Jeff (Missy) Jones; five great-grandchildren, Matthew and Amy Cusano, Krista Sharp, and Christopher and Courtney Jones; three great-great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Patricia Fischer; and loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer J. Fischer; her son, Kenneth Fischer; her siblings, Louetta Stevenson, Anna Mae Johnson, Russell, William, Norman, and John Weagraff; two siblings in infancy; and her parents.
