KINGSVILLE — Marcella Mae Farr, age 96, of Kingsville, Ohio, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 16, 1916, in Conneaut, Ohio, the daughter of Thomas Reid and Lola Mae (Rounds) Jenness and was a Ashtabula County resident most of her life. She had lived for two years in California while her husband was in the Navy. She graduated from Conneaut High School in 1934 and married Durward Stafford Farr on March 2, 1941.
Marcella was a beautician and styled hair at Adrian’s Beauty Salon in Ashtabula and in her own salon in her home. She was also a school bus driver for Ashtabula Area City Schools. She often spoke fondly of the children who rode her bus. She was a charter member of the Ashtabula County Genealogical Society and had several articles published in genealogical publications. She was affiliated with the First Christian Church in Ashtabula.
Marcella enjoyed sewing, needlework, basket making, crafts, gardening and antiques. Most important to Marcella was her love of family and friends. She dearly loved her husband Stafford and loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marcella spent time planning special activities for her grandchildren and making Christmas an especially exciting time for them. Family members will treasure handmade items made for them by Grandma Cella.
Surviving her are three children, Penney (Douglas) Rist of Sarasota, Fla., G. Thomas (Ruth) Farr of North Kingsville, Ohio and William S. (Lou Ann) Farr of Kingsville, Ohio; ten grandchildren, Jennifer (Andrew) DeVantier of Dublin, Ohio, Scott Rist of Sarasota, Fla., Patrick (Esther) Rist of Annapolis, Md., Amanda Burge of Plantation, Fla., Steven Farr of Conneaut, Julia (Todd) Pew of North Kingsville, Thomas (Connie) Farr of North Kingsville, Timothy (Julie) Farr of Massillon, Kelly (Tracy) Farr of Ashtabula and Paul Farr of Kingsville; and ten great-grandchildren, Katherine, Abigail and John DeVantier of Dublin, Ohio, Zoe Burge of Plantation, Fla., Tyler and Emily Pew of North Kingsville, Hannah and Heather Farr of North Kingsville and Aiden and Hailey Farr and (soon-to-be-born great-grandchild) of Ashtabula.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Durward Stafford Farr in 1999; and a brother, George Thomas Jenness in 1937.
Marcella’s family deeply appreciates the loving care that she received while she was a resident of the Ashtabula County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kingsville, Ohio.
A Memorial Service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 26th, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 211 Buffalo St., Conneaut, Ohio, with the Rev. Joyce Shellhammer officiating. Burial will be in Conneaut Center Cemetery.
