ASHTABULA — Richard C. Riddle Jr., age 53, of Jefferson Ave., passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, March 31, 2013.
Born Jan. 15, 1960, in St. Louis, Mo., he was the son of Richard C. Riddle and Mattie (Miller) Richardson and had lived in Ashtabula most of his life. A 1978 graduate of Ashtabula High School, he was an excellent football player and track athlete in his younger years.
Richard was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and, over the years, had worked for many factories including Molded Fiberglass and also worked at Kmart. He also was working with his own lawn care business.
He enjoyed fishing, dogs, cooking, and especially barbeque grilling. He dearly loved his family and was known to many as “The man that smiles” because of the beautiful, engaging smile he would flash wherever he went.
Richard is survived by his mother, Mattie Richardson of Ashtabula; his father, Richard C. Riddle Sr. of Louisville, Miss.; five children, Jason Riddle and Resh’d Riddle, both of Ashtabula, Monifa and Asia Riddle of Greensboro, N.C. and Jordan Riddle of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; five grandchildren, Malaki Obie, Jaykob Riddle, King Atterberry, Essence Perrin and Shay Riddle; two sisters, Ann Riddle of Ashtabula and Doris Walker of Chicago, Ill.; his longtime companion, Donna Card; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his honorary aunt and uncle, Betty and Adam Holman.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Riddle; and his step-father, Richard Richardson.
Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, April 6th, at Hiawatha Church of God in Christ, 3417 Hiawatha Ave., Ashtabula. Supt. David Howard will officiate. Burial will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Ashtabula with Full Military Honors.
A Calling Hour will be Saturday at the Church from 12 Noon until the hour of Service.
