CONNEAUT — Anthony E. Vespe, age 97, of Conneaut, died Monday, April 1, 2013, at the Kemper House, in Mentor, Ohio.
Anthony was born June 25, 1915, the son of Carmen and Sylvia Di Stefano Vespe. He was a 1933 graduate of Conneaut High.
He sailed the great lakes with his brother Richard Vespe and later did automotive repair work. He attended Western Reserve in Cleveland learning the IBM punch card code until his induction in the Unites States Army in 1942. Anthony was stationed in England, France and Germany until he was Honorably discharged in 1945 as Staff Sgt. He remained in Europe to continue military missions and statistics information for the United States government. He retired from the Department of Defense in 1974.
Anthony enjoyed playing golf and traveling as well as spending time at the officers club while in the service. He had traveled to 55 countries all around the world.
Anthony was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Benjamin, Richard, Joseph (Mic) and John; sisters, Alice Forsty and Marian Maglery; and his longtime companion, Gertrude Klucker
Anthony is survived by a brother, Vincent Vespe of Albuquerque, N.M.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A special thank you to Joe and Becky Vespe for their care and compassion given to Anthony during his later years.

Graveside Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut.
