BEACHWOOD — Francis R. Trun, age 93, formerly of Westshore Drive, Ashtabula, passed away Friday, May 10, 2013, at the Menorah Park Center.

He was born Sept. 3, 1919, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the son of Josef and Aleana (Hadak) Trun and had been an Ashtabula resident since 1958. A Veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the World War II before being honorably discharged on Oct. 30, 1945.

Prior to his retirement, he worked for the State of Ohio as the Director of the Bureau of Support.

A member of Mother of Sorrows Church, he was instrumental in the coordination of the annual Mother of Sorrows Church Festival and was active in the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Trun enjoyed Steelers football, sports, golf, bowling and gardening.

His survivors include eight children, Eileen Schaefer of Knoxville, Tenn., Jeffrey Trun of Rising Sun, Md., Dian Calderone and Maribeth Trun, both of Newport News, Va., Douglas Trun of Virginia, Denise Trun of Lyndhurst, Nancy Trun of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Jessica (Benjamin) Thirlby; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Kathryn Calderone.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Margaret M. (Jackson) Trun on March 9, 2002; and numerous siblings including, Jewel, Maria, Anne, Dorothy, and James; and his parents.

A Memorial Mass was held 1:30 p.m., Saturday, at Our Lady of Peace Parish, Mother of Sorrows Worship Site, 1514 W. 6th St., Ashtabula. The Rev. Raymond Thomas, Pastor presided. Inurnment was in the St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum (prior to the mass  at 1 p.m.).

At Mr. Trun’s request, no calling hours will be observed.
