AUSTINBURG — Mary Etta Montgomery, age 87, of St. Rt. 45, Austinburg, died peacefully Wednesday afternoon, May 1, 2013, at her residence.
She was born June 24, 1925, in Saybrook Township, the daughter of John I. and Blanche M. (Webb) Corlew and had been an Austinburg resident all of her life. She was married to Harold Montgomery Jr. on Nov. 19, 1944, in Austinburg.
Mary Etta was a retired employee of the Geneva School System where she worked as a crossing guard and an assistant librarian.
She was a member of the Austinburg First United Church of Christ where she was active with the Women’s United and the Over 49er’s. Mary Etta also belonged to the Austinburg Grange and the Austinburg Township VFD Fireman’s Auxillary. She loved playing the chimes and the piano, where so many memories and good times were had. Mary Etta touched so many lives and cherished her family and many friends.
She is survived by six children, William A. (Lois) Montgomery of Phoenix, Ariz., Douglas L. (Lou Ann) Montgomery of Unionville, Carol A. Berkowitz of Austinburg Township, John A. Montgomery of Austinburg Township., Kathy L. (Sean) Carson of Saybrook Township and Jane E. (Cliff) Bowser of Austinburg Township; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Edwards of Saybrook Township; and a brother-in-law, Fred Leonard Reushling of Jefferson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold in 1995; a brother, Ivan; and three sisters, Julia, Florice and Medora.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12 p.m., Saturday, May 4th, at the Austinburg First United Church of Christ, 2870 St. Rt. 307, Austinburg, with the Rev. Candace Thomas officiating. A gathering for fellowship and food will follow immediately at the Austinburg Town Hall. Committal Services will be held 10:30 a,m., Monday, at Austin Cemetery , College St., Austinburg.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of Service, Saturday, at the Church.
