ASHTABULA — Christina Marie (Pedro) Mahoney, age 81, of Lake Road West, Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at Saybrook Landing.

Born Sept. 29, 1931, in Ashtabula, she was the daughter of Joseph Paul and Grace (Bartone) Pedro and had been a lifelong Ashtabula resident.

A 1949 graduate of Ashtabula High School, she worked as a clerk for the Ashtabula County Board of Elections for many years prior to her retirement.

A member of Our Lady of Peace Parish (St. Joseph Church), she belonged to the Catholic Daughters and Anita Garibaldi Lodge. She was also a member of Women’s Service League, Women’s Club of Ashtabula, the BPO Elks #208 and previously the Elks Ladies Association, and the Sophisticated Ladies Investment Club.

Always interested in politics, she was very active in the Ashtabula County Democratic Party.

However, her life was defined by her relationships. They were the most important thing to her having been blessed with two wonderful husbands and treasuring the time she spent with family and friends and the many important moments with grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Her survivors include two daughters, Susan (Robert) Rockhill and Renee (Thomas) Meola, both of Ashtabula; three grandchildren, Ryan (Ashley) Rockhill, Krista (Joseph) Toula and Nicholas Meola; a brother, Joseph (Joanne) Pedro of Ashtabula; three step-sons, Joseph E. (Jane) Mahoney Jr. of Plantation, Fla., Timothy J. (Rosemary) Mahoney of Lake Zurich, Ill., and Francis X. (Christine) Mahoney of Fremont, Calif.; eight step-grandchildren, Shannon, Megan, Joseph III, John, Michael, Carrie Ann, Jenna and Thomas; and a special cousin with whom she was raised, Josephine Simrak.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Varkette; her second husband, Judge Joseph Edward Mahoney; two brothers, Nick Taddeo and Donald Pedro; one sister, Phyllis Pugliese; and her parents.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Saybrook Landing for the kind and compassionate care they extended to Christina over the past three months.

Calling Hours will be held Monday, June 10th, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula. Anita Garibaldi Lodge will conduct their Memorial Service at 11 a.m. at the Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12 p.m., Noon, on Monday, June 10th, at Our Lady of Peace Parish, St. Joseph Church, 3312 Lake Ave., Ashtabula. The Rev. Raymond Thomas will preside. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery,  Ashtabula.
