ASHTABULA — Emerson J. Fowlie, age 90, of Route 193 North, Denmark Township, Ohio, died early Sunday morning, Jan. 12, 2014, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born May 2, 1923, in Lions Head, Ontario, Canada, the son of John and Winnefred (Lawrence) Fowlie and has lived in this area since 1953, coming from Canada. Mr. Fowlie was married to Aleta M. Dickie on Feb. 27, 1953, in Wiarton, Canada.
He owned and operated the Fowlie Farm in Denmark Township.
His enjoyments included sawmilling, auctions with farm equipment, hunting deer and bear, and square dancing.
Survivors include his wife, Aleta M. Fowlie; six children, Tracy and Vincent Fowlie, both of Denmark Township, Dean Fowlie and Lisa (Jim) Buchan, both of Jefferson, Eric Fowlie of Middleburg Heights and Linda (Rick) Crombie of Chardon; seven grandchildren, Jaala Fowlie, Jessica Fowlie, Joseph Fowlie, Lindsi Fowlie and Gregory, and Emery Buchan and Ricky Crombie; two great-grandchildren, Austin Norris and Leandra Fowlie; a brother, Elmore (Barbara) Fowlie of Ventura, Calif.; and a sister, Joy Richardson of Wiarton, Ontario, Canada.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Jeffrey Fowlie in 2003 and an infant daughter, Arleen in 1969; and two sisters, Jean Wilkie and Bernice Nightingale.
Calling Hours will be held Thursday, Jan. 16th, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Jefferson Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS & CREMATORY, INC., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson. Burial of ashes will be in Griggs Corner Cemetery at a later date.
