ASHTABULA — Betty Ann Stofko, age 73, passed away Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at the Cleveland Clinic.

She was born Oct. 27, 1940, in Ashtabula, the daughter of Louis J. and Charlotte (Wahlstrom) Stofko, and had been a lifelong Ashtabula resident. A 1958 graduate of St. John High School (the second graduating class), she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Master’s in Remedial Reading from Kent State University.

A lifelong educator, she taught 43 years at St. John and Paul Elementary School (Mother of Sorrows) and touched the lives of countless students during that time. She was inducted into the St. John Hall of Fame in 2007.

She enjoyed traveling with Happy Travelers, art classes, and ceramics at the Ashtabula Senior Center and Jefferson Senior Center and was regularly in attendance at St. John and Our Lady of Peace functions.

Her survivors include her sister, Mary (Norm) Seibold of Ashtabula and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her aunt, Betty Stofko; and a sister, Janet at birth.

Calling Hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 26th, at ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 27th, at Our Lady of Peace Parish, Mother of Sorrows Church, 1464 W. 6th St., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Raymond Thomas, Pastor presiding. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends are encouraged to honor Betty by wearing something in her favorite color blue to her services.
