ASHTABULA — Richard C. Mollick, age 83, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.

He was born May 8, 1930, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Stella (Kozuch) and Joseph Mollick. The family moved to Ashtabula in the Spring of 1942. A 1950 graduate of Ashtabula High School, he served as class president for both his junior and senior years and was active in football, basketball and track.

He worked for Allen’s Nursery while in school, then the New York Central Railroad reclamation plant. On Sept. 4, 1951, he married the love of his life, Roberta Wilson, and together they celebrated 62 wonderful years. In 1951, he joined the U.S. Army and served at Ft. Bragg, N.C., until 1953 during the Korean War.

Following his discharge, he returned to Ashtabula and worked five years for Reliance Electric and then worked over 35 years for the East Ohio Gas Company, where he served as union president for the better part of 22 years. He also worked six years for Sears and evenings for the Geneva-on-the-Lake Police Department from 1961 to 1968.

Dick served on the Mental Health Clinic Board as the president for 19 years. During that time, he helped the service grow from a single house on West 46th St., to Collins Blvd., to what is now a part of the Donahoe Center.

A member of First United Methodist Church, he served on the Trustees and Administrative Board and was also an usher and head usher for many years. He was also a member of the Ashtabula County Council – AFL-CIO and the Retirees Council.

His love of sports led to an avid following of most local schools, area city leagues, NHRA Drag Racing, Cleveland professional sports teams, and of course his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes.

His survivors include his wife, Roberta; five children, Christine M. (Edson) Bisbee of Andover, Cynthia A. Mollick, Constance S. Johnson and Catherine (J.R.) Sjostrom, all of Ashtabula and Steven R. (Katherine) Mollick of Newton Falls; eight grandchildren, Matthew (Ashley Heurburger) and Jessica (Hernie Rosado) Johnson, Maggie (Phil) Cagnoli, Crystal (Nikko) Jackson, Shana (Derek) Smith, Cody Baker, Michael Mollick and Jason Sjostrom; six great-grandchildren, Eric, Trey, Cameron, Audrina, Bela and Paxton; one brother, Ronald (Damaris) Mollick of Ashtabula; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence Mollick, and his wife, Marquita; and his parents.

Calling Hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 22nd, at ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio, and from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 23rd, at the First United Methodist Church.

A Service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 23rd, at First United Methodist Church, 4506 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Christine Bell, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, North Kingsville, with Full Military Honors.
