ASHTABULA — Joanne Karlene Anderson, age 72, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at Saybrook Landing.
She was born June 22, 1941, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the daughter of Carl W. and Katherine M. (Green) Desko and had been a lifelong area resident.
A graduate of Geneva High School, she attended trade school in Pennsylvania for cosmetology and operated her own beauty shop in Geneva for several years. She also worked as a machine operator for the Industrial Rayon Corp. prior to her retirement.
A longtime member of First Grace Gospel Church and lover of old church hymns, she more recently had been affiliated with the Berean Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Joanne enjoyed bingo, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, crafts, and flowers (especially purple lilacs and heather).
Her survivors include two children, Rebecca Benson and Bryan D. Desko, both of Ashtabula; two grandchildren, Heather Woodard and Amber Wojda; one great-granddaughter, Naomi-Lynn; and one brother, Carl (Henrietta) Desko of Palmetto, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Robert “Robbie” Wojda in infancy and her parents.
Calling Hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 18th, at the DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula.
A Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 19th, at the DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, with Pastor David J. Adams, of First Grace Gospel Church, officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery.
