CONNEAUT — Bette B. Scully, age 89, of Conneaut, died Monday, August 12, 2013, at UH Conneaut Medical Center.
Bette was born June 19, 1926, in Conneaut, the daughter of Michael and Mary (Betory) Wassie Sr.
Bette worked at the former Neilsen’s Wallpaper Store, Eaton’s Flower Shop, The Children’s Shop and The Card Shop, where she retired on March 13, 1987.
Bette attended Conneaut High School and was a member of St. Mary/ St. Frances Cabrini Parish. At an early age, she enjoyed roller skating at a rink above Pelton’s Department Store and later at the skating rink down by the Harbor in Conneaut. She enjoyed baking, making dinners for her family, doing craft work and going to garage sales. Bette also enjoyed working out in the yard, planting flowers and helping out whenever and wherever she was needed. Bette and her late husband, Dean, also packed boxes at the Conneaut Human Resource Center for the needy at Christmas time. Bette’s most cherished time was spent with her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, visiting with friends and neighbors and spending time with her departed husband, Dean at Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
Bette was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dean in 2009, whom she married on March 19, 1944 (which was Dean’s birthday) in Newport, R.I.; her daughter, Linda (Scully) Douthit in 2010; four brothers, Vincent, Mike, John and Steve Wassie; her sister, Mary (Wassie) Bean; and a granddaughter, Karen Elizabeth Scully.
Bette is survived by her son, Larry (Joe) Scully of Kipton, Ohio; son-in-law, David Douthit of Sisters, Ore.; grandchildren, Christine and (Tim) Smith of Seattle, Wash., Cathy Warner of Sisters, Ore., Michael Scully of Euclid, Ohio, Melissa Scully of Cleveland, Alicia Scully of Manhattan, Kan., Sarah and (Jeremy) Bailey of Tulso, Okla. and Joseph Gadoua of Elyria, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Grant, Alec, Daly, Hogan and Wyatt; great-great-grandson, Toby; and several nieces and nephews.
