ASHTABULA — Kathryn Gladis Welton, age 95, of Thayer Ave., passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at her home.

She was born Jan. 10, 1918, in Madison, the daughter of Timothy J. and Mary (Hayward) Ryan, and had been an area resident most of her life. A 1937 graduate of Madison High School, she lived on Adams Ave. for 40 years before moving to Thayer Ave. in the Ashtabula Harbor in 1992.

On Sept. 30, 1938, she married the love of her life, Gordon Welton, at St. Joseph Church where they remained faithful members. They participated in the Mr. and Mrs. Club and served as parent volunteers at the school.

Kathryn enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, watching CNN, and listening to Irish music. Most of all, she was a mother who deeply loved her children and family.

Her survivors include children, Judy (Al) Conti of Niles, Daniel (Nanci) Welton of Tucson, Ariz. and Mary (Bill) Elliott and David (Barbara) Welton, both of Ashtabula; and grandchildren, Tim Elliott and Ryan and Kati Welton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon in 2000; three brothers, John, Tim and George Ryan; three sisters, Marcina Wrisley, Helen McMackin and Mary Francys Bender; and her parents. She was also preceded in death by her son, Thomas, in 1975 who passed away after 18 years of battling kidney disease, including the rejection of the kidney his mother had donated. Kathryn was appreciative of the love and support of her family, friends, and the Ashtabula community during her son’s illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m., Monday, August 5th, at Our Lady of Peace Parish, St. Joseph Church, 3312 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, with Fr. Raymond Thomas, Pastor presiding. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, August 4th, at ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.

As an alternative to flowers, the family suggest contributions to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004.
