MEADVILLE, Pa. — Rev. Gerald Duane Watson, age 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 28, 2013.
He pastored Free Methodist churches in Girard and Ellwood City, Pa., as well as North Kingsville, Ashtabula and Conneaut, Ohio. Rev. Watson was well known for his passion for “doing the Lord’s work”, comforting families in crisis, his ability to solve problems, and being a peacemaker. He was a selfless, patient, caring man who never said an unkind word about anyone.
Always having a ready laugh, Gerald was a loving husband and father who is survived by his wife of 66 years, Frances (nee Tovey); daughters, Darlene Jordan (Dan, deceased) of Upland, Ind. and Carol Klinehamer (Joe) of Bratenahl, Ohio; son, Ray of Leesburg, Fla.; brother, John of Conneaut, Ohio; six grandchildren, Jill, Eric, Michele, Marc, Chad and Heather; five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Madelynn, Jackson, Sevastian and Maizy; and Dennis Ullery, long-time family confidant.
Rev. Watson was preceded in death by his parents, Milo and Ida Watson; and sisters, Genevieve, Dorotha, Helen, Hilda and Ardis.
Gerald Watson served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in Africa and Italy. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with four Bronze Stars for meritorious service.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 3rd, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, Pa., where Funeral Services will follow at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Rick Crocker officiating.
Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 17045 Conneaut Lake Road, Meadville, Pa.
