CLEVELAND — E. Douglas Chapman, age 67, of Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at the Cleveland Clinic.
He was born Jan. 19, 1946, in Columbus, Ohio, to Herbert and Wahneta Chapman. He graduated from Ashland High School in 1964, where he played on the undefeated and state-ranked football team. After graduation, he attended The Ohio State University.
A Veteran, he joined the United States Navy in 1965 and served for four years. He was stationed in Germany and also Guam.
For many years, he helped run Chapman’s Food Service and St. Angelo’s Lanes. He later opened a convenient store, Chapman’s Top of the Hill. His store was part of the Bunker Hill neighborhood for over 20 years.
He enjoyed bowling, whittling, collecting coins, and telling stories. Doug and Mary Ann enjoyed traveling and going on cruises. Doug was especially happy when he was spending time with his entire family. His children and grandchildren brought him much joy and he relished their time together.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (St. Angelo); three children, Doug and his wife, Lori (Anstine) Chapman, of North Canton, Susan Kates and her husband, Ken, of University Heights and Brian and his wife, Allison (Roskovics) Chapman, of North Ridgeville; four grandchildren, Carter and Brennen Chapman, Giana Kates and Evan Chapman; brother, Gary Chapman and his wife, Sandy, of Delaware; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Wahneta Chapman.
Funeral Service will be 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22nd, at GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 1550 West 19th St., Ashtabula, with Deacon Richard Johnson, of Our Lady of Peace Parish, officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Navy. Burial will be 10 a.m. on Monday. Sept. 23rd, at Saint Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Sunday, Sept. 22nd, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
