SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP — Robert R. Kotila, age 82, of Saybrook Township, Ohio, passed away Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at the Cleveland Clinic due to complications following a medical procedure.

Born August 13, 1931, in Ashtabula, Ohio, he was the son of Sally (Wisuri) and Ray Kotila. He graduated from Ashtabula Schools in 1949. On July 1, 1951, he married Wilma Harmon at Plymouth Community Church.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army in December of 1951 for two years. He spent 17 months in Germany in occupation forces as a Military Police and then in the reserves until April of 1960.

He worked for RMI Metals for twenty years and retired as Shift Manager in July of 1991. Early in his career, he was given the opportunity to become involved in the computer business at Union Carbide and worked in that area in Ashtabula and the Elyria/Cleveland area for years. After his retirement from RMI Metals, he again came back to his favorite element of employment –computers.

Bob enjoyed golf, fishing, gardening, and hunting. In his teenage years, he so enjoyed traveling with his family from Florida to California and back to Ashtabula where he graduated from Ashtabula High School.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Wilma; daughters, Gail (Dennis) Johnson of Jefferson, Susan (Daniel) Marshfield of Geneva and Laurie (William) Laughlin of Trumbull Township; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; baby sister, Dorothy Mae; sister, Betty Ann; his great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Ann Laughlin; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Thanks to Dr. “Ted” at Cleveland Clinic (and his staff) who so lovingly took care of our loved one during his illness.

Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 18th, at the Ashtabula Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS & CREMATORY, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Julie Hanneman officiating.

Calling Hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 17th and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of Service, at the Funeral Home.
