YOUNGSTOWN — Marie “Tootsie” (Nassar) Nassief peacefully entered into eternal life Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at home surrounded by her loving family.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Boardman, Ohio, Saturday, Feb. 8th, at 11 a.m.

Marie was born June 11, 1922, in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of Aziz and Liza Nassar. She married J. Edward Nassief on Oct. 16, 1952, and lived in Ashtabula until his death on June 15, 1960, at which time she returned to Youngstown with her three children to be near family.

Marie was the loving mother of daughter, Lisa, with whom she made her home and son, Robert (Marilyn) from Tampa, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her son, Ed (Evey) who died in 2002. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Sam, as well as her sisters, Rose, Sue and Virginia.

Marie’s memory will be cherished by her grandchildren, Carrie (Ben) Szmara, Ed (Jolene) Nassief, Kaela Nassief, as well as her great-grandchildren, Mason and Jesse Szmara. She leaves behind her many loving nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Marie was a loving, strong, kind and independent woman. She raised her three children by herself, teaching them to be loving, respectful, productive adults. Marie was always available to help family and friends and was willing to share all she had.

While raising her children, Tootsie worked 25 years at the Italian Baking Company. After retiring from the bakery, she went to work as a Wal-Mart greeter for five years. She loved people and knew no strangers. She also liked playing bingo and going to casinos, but mostly enjoyed spending time with her family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be sent to the Antonine Sisters Adult Day Care, 2675 North Lipkey Road in North Jackson, Ohio  44451.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Antonine Sisters and staff for their wonderful care and compassion they gave to their mother. They would also like to thank MVI Hospice, especially Meesha, Gail and Stephanie, as well as Dr. Charles Wilkins and Dr. Dominic Conti for their support and care during this difficult time. Marie will always be remembered for her beautiful infectious smile, constant love, and giving spirit.
