PORT HURON, Mich. — Gertrude Isabel Shears, age 86, formerly of Conneaut, Ohio, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Marwood Manor in Port Huron, Mich.
Gertrude was born May 28, 1927, in Conneaut, Ohio, the daughter of Francis and Ethel Dalrymple Marvin. She was a graduate of Amboy School and also was a cheerleader. She met her husband, Albert Jorma Aho, while with her girlfriends at a dance at Ashtabula Lakeshore Park.
They married in 1946 and raised their family on W. 3rd St. in the Ashtabula Harbor. Albert died in 1970 after they moved to North Kingsville. Later Gertrude married Ray Shears. Following his death in 1991, she moved to Utah to be near her children Rod and Linda. She also spent time in California with Diana and finally settled in with her oldest son Denny in Port Huron, Mich.
As dementia took hold and a broken hip, she moved to a nursing facility. She was loved deeply by her family and we are thankful for the extra love and care given to her by Denny and his family as well as the staff at Marwood Manor. She was also a former member of the Kingsville First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Albert Jorma Aho; second husband, Raymond Shears; four brothers, Bernie, Francis, Raymond and George “Pete” Marvin; and a great-grandson, Aiden DeLong.
Gertrude is survived by two sons, Denny and Linda Aho of Kimball, Mich. and Rodney and Pearl of Stevensville, Mont.; two daughters, Diana and Thomas Cox of Auburn, Calif. and Linda Emmett of Ogden, Utah; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, June Haase Siegfried; and several nieces and nephews.
