MANSFIELD — Samuel E. (Sam) Judson died Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 28, 2014, at his home in Mansfield.
He was born in Ravenna on Feb. 14, 1942, to George Harley and E. Elizabeth (Swigart) Judson. At the age of 18 months, he moved with his family to Austinburg. He graduated from Austinburg High School in 1960, attended The Ohio State University and served in the U.S. Army, from which he was honorably discharged in 1963. He married Christine Burr in 1968, at St. Joseph Calasanctius Church in Jefferson.
He was employed at Rockwell International in Ashtabula from 1964 to 1986. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union. He operated the family dairy farm in Austinburg from 1987 to 1999. He was a member of the Ashtabula County Soil and Water Conservation District, the Ohio Farmers Union, the Austinburg Volunteer Fire Dept., and Austinburg Grange
Sam and Chris moved to Mansfield in 2001, where he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles, hiking, and traveling. He volunteered with the bluebird program at Malabar, the HOSTS program in Mansfield Schools, Feed the Needy at St. Peter’s, and the Mohican Trails Club. He was a member of St. Peter’s Parish.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mary Ann in 1978; and his brother-in-law, Vincent Burr.
He is survived by his wife, Christine; daughter, Laurie of Mansfield; sons, Andrew (Barbi) of Plymouth and Todd of Austinburg; grandchildren, Austin and Elizabeth Judson and Brandon and Haley Reed; sisters, Frances (Ted) Norris of Plymouth and Carol (Edward) Cass of Punta Gorda, Fla.; brother, Charles (Ruth) Judson of Jefferson; sisters-in-law, Jenny (Tom) Hogan and Martha (Mike) Snell; and brothers-in-law, Jerry (Carol) Burr and Gene (Rosemary) Burr.
A Memorial Mass will be offered on Friday, Feb. 14th, at 11 a.m., at St. Joseph Calasanctius Church in Jefferson, celebrated by the Rev. John Sheridan. The family will receive friends the hour prior to the Service in the church sanctuary. Interment will be held privately in Austinburg Center Cemetery.
