KINGSVILLE — Kenneth M. Smith, age 92, of Conneaut, Ohio, died Thursday afternoon, June 26, 2014, surrounded by his family at Ashtabula County Nursing Home in Kingsville, Ohio.
He was born Oct. 5, 1921, in Jefferson, Ohio, and was the son of Irus S. and Jessie M. (Hogle) Smith. Kenneth was a Veteran of World War II.
He was a farmer and was also employed as a roller operator by Koski Construction, retiring in 1984. He was a 50-year member of the Ohio Operators Engineers Union. In his early years, he enjoyed riding snowmobiles and motorcycles. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed raising animals, but mostly loved his dogs. He also enjoyed woodworking and cutting wood for heating his house.
Survivors include his children, Christine Fielden of Dalton, Ohio, Joyce Petit of Lodi, Ohio, James Sharp of Louisiana and William Sharp of Conneaut, Ohio; three sisters, Alice (Jerry) Dalrymple of Conneaut, Ohio, Doris Beckwith of Ashtabula, Ohio and Joyce Castrilla of Harpersfield, Ohio; and great-grandchildren, Meagan and Amanda, Adam and Paige, Brittany and Devlyn, and Foxx; and great-great-grandchildren, Caroline and Carsyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn in 2005; a great-grandson, Alexander; brother, Gerald; and two sisters, Wilma Bristol and Lois Supplee.
Private family visitation was held Friday, June 27th, at MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut.
