GENEVA — Tomas F. Lopez, age 81, of Geneva, Ohio, passed away peacefully at the home of his granddaughter, Lori and Brian Bartone in Ashtabula, on June 14, 2014, with his loving family beside him, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Dec. 20, 1932, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the son of Freco and Margallie (Torres) Lopez. He was a Geneva resident for 60 years. He married Genevieve Thompson on Sept. 15, 1974.
He had worked at Cottage Garden Nursery until his retirement at the age of 80. He enjoyed gardening, playing the Lottery; he loved smoking his pipe but most of all loved spending time with his family.
He leaves to cherish his memory, three step-children, Sharon Fontanez-McKinney of Meadville, Pa., James Thompson of Geneva and David Thompson of Ashtabula; three granddaughters, which he loved dearly, Lori Bartone and her husband, Brian of Ashtabula, Ashley Fontanez and Amy Fontanez, both of Meadville, Pa.; six great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Nathan Bartone, Natalia and Kayant Fontanez-Waid and Millian and Madison Fontanez-Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Genevieve on April 16, 2001; and his sister, Juanita Alvarez.
Visiting Hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 18th, at the Geneva Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS AND CREMATORY, 323 S. Broadway, Geneva. There will be no funeral service.
